The primary 4 factors in Utah law are:
1. Look at the party requesting alimony for their ability to earn (how much do they make or can make?).
2. Look at the party requesting alimony for their needs (how much they need to survive each month?).
3. Look at the party paying for their ability to earn (how much do they make or can make?).
4. Look at the party paying for their ability to pay (how much are their expenses (reasonable) and how much is left that can be paid as alimony).
If get through this analysis move to some sub factors (duration of the marriage, lifestyle of the parties during the marriage, fault, who forewent opportunities, education earned during marriage, etc……)
